SUMMER ARTS CAMPS AT KHAC

2009 Summer Art Camps

Exciting experiences await you this summer at Kennedy Heights Arts Center! We invite you to take part in one of our fun and creative art camps for youth ages 5-13.

Camps for ages 5 - 7
Campers may register for a morning or afternoon session; or bring a sack lunch and make it a full day!

Art Explosion
June 8 - 12 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Camp fee $25
Instructor: Dani Tippler
Campers will incorporate multiple medias and explore the possibilities that both 2-D and 3-D art have to offer. Kids will draw cartoons, create textures from nature and get a handle on clay. Class limit: 15

Clowning Around
June 8 - 12 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Camp fee $25
Instructor: Bet Stewart
We will explore the spirit of clowning in the original
theatrical tradition that goes back to European roots and elsewhere. The clown looks at the world through the eyes of playfulness and imagination. We will each find our Inner Clown and our Outer Nose! Class limit: 15

Art Around the World
July 27 - 31 9:30 am - 12:00 pm
Camp fee $25
Instructor: April Cooper
Join us as we create art from many different places and many different times throughout history. Some of our stops will include Japan, Australia and Africa! Each day we will travel to a new country and learn about the art they create there, and the ways that the art reflects their culture. Don’t miss this exciting journey! Class limit: 15

Going Green
July 27 - 31 12:30 pm - 3:00 pm
Camp fee $25
Instructor: Melinda Welch
This summer, discover what we can do to help keep the earth beautiful and clean. We will create art out of recycled objects and natural materials while learning about environmental issues. The serene and natural setting of the arts center is the perfect place to combine art and the environment. Class limit: 15

Camps for ages 7 - 11

Let’s Party! Maskmaking, Drama & Samba
Ages 7-9
July 13 - 17 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Camp fee $50
Instructor: Bet Stewart
Want to grab the world by the tail and dive into a fun cultural event? As we explore drama, movement and mask-making, we’ll discover new forms of theatre in the world. We’ll make masks from our own ideas and
participate in a Samba parade at the Cincinnati Zoo. Samba is like a mardi gras celebration, but it comes from Brazil - big, colorful & happy! *Zoo field trip on July 15. Class limit: 15

Let’s Make a Movie
Ages 8-11
July 20 - 24 9:30 am- 2:30 pm
Camp fee $50
Instructor: Brandon Parker
During this exciting video editing camp, students will have the opportunity to learn how to plan and execute
a video shoot along with discovering new techniques for capturing video images on digital video cameras. Our young film makers will edit and complete a video project using imovie and have fun while creating
something truly unique that is inspiring to parents, campmates and instructors! Class limit: 10

Sticks & Stones, and maybe some bones...
....and you’ll have artwork to treasure!

Ages 7-9
August 3 - 7 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Camp fee $50
Instructor: Robin Hartmann
Look around you, wherever you are...Do you see “stuff” or do you see beauty? This camp will encourage young artists to look at everyday items differently, and you’ll transform these ordinary objects into extraordinary works of art! Campers will treasure their amazing creations. Class limit: 15

In the Woods
Ages 7-9
August 10 - 14 9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Camp fee $50
Instructors: Jeanne Speier and Robin Hartmann
Discover your inner sprite! In this movement, dance and art camp, we will tap into the flow of nature around us as we create nature-inspired dances on the beautiful grounds at the Arts Center. Campers will enjoy making costumes, props and other art creations and will
present a special show to entertain and entice our
families. Class limit: 15.

Camp for ages 10 - 13


Let Yourself Blossom!

June 15 - July 10 (Monday - Friday)
Performance on Saturday, July 11
9:30 am - 2:30 pm
Camp fee $50*
Instructors: Omope Carter Daboiku, Natalie Hager, Arynn McCandless, Baba Charles Miller, & Bet Stewart
Join other neighborhood youth in exploring the arts and our community in this four-week camp. You will experience different forms of art such as painting, drawing, poetry, photography, drama, story telling, music & more! Campers will enjoy making new friends and being creative at the Arts Center. Camp will conclude with a show at KHAC! Youth also will have the opportunity to perform at the Ridge Day parade and festival on Saturday, July 11th.

Because of the community focus of this camp, priority is given to residents of Kennedy Heights, Pleasant Ridge, Silverton, Amberley and Columbia Township.

ALL CAMPS: Campers will be working inside & out. Full day campers, please pack a lunch (refrigeration avaiable) each day and bring a water bottle, hat &
sunscreen.

1. By mail: Remove the registration form and mail with your check or credit card information (do not send cash) to:

2. By phone: Please have your VISA or Mastercard handy when you phone (513) 631-4278.
3. Walk-in registration: During our business hours, Mondays through Saturdays 10 am – 4 pm.
Tuition fees are due upon registration. Register early to ensure your place in class.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Kennedy Heights Arts Center aims to make the arts accessible to everyone. Scholarships to cover class fees are available to residents of the local community in need. This includes the neighborhoods of Kennedy Heights, Pleasant Ridge, Silverton, Amberley and Columbia Township. You may obtain a scholarship application by downloading it at our website www.kennedyarts.org or by calling 631-4278.
